9. The Second Tour of Galilee

Jesus Toured Galilee (2nd Time)
(Luke 8:1-3)

It happened soon afterwards, that he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of the Kingdom of God. With him were the twelve, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out; and Joanna, the wife of Chuzas, Herod's steward; Susanna; and many others; who served them from their possessions.

Jesus Accused Of Being Associated With Beelzebub
(Matt 12:22-37 Mark 3:19-30 Luke 11:14-23,27-28,33-36)

He came into a house. The multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. Then one possessed by a demon, blind and mute, was brought to him and he healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. All the multitudes were amazed, and said, "Can this be the son of David?" When his friends heard it, they went out to seize him: for they said, "He is insane." But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, "This man does not cast out demons, except by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons." Others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven.

Knowing their thoughts, He summoned them, and said to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand and is brought to desolation. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand and it falls. If Satan has risen up against himself and casts out Satan, how will his kingdom stand? He is divided, he can't stand, but has an end. If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if I by the Spirit of God and the finger of God, cast out demons, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you."

"Or how can one enter into the house of the strong man, and plunder his goods, unless he first bind the strong man? Then he will plunder his house.
When the strong man, fully armed, guards his own dwelling, his goods are safe. But when someone stronger attacks him and overcomes him, he takes from him his whole armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils."

"He who is not with me is against me, and he who doesn't gather with me, scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit,
and blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come, but is guilty of an eternal sin (having eternal damnation). Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit. You (generation) of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things. I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

"No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, that those who come in may see the light. The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn't darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly full of light, as when the lamp with its bright shining gives you light."

It came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice, and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts which nursed you!"

But he said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it."

The Scribes and Pharisees Demand A Sign
(Matt 12:38-45 Luke 11:24-26,29-32)

When the multitudes were gathering together to him, Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from you."

But he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
Even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will also the Son of Man be to this generation. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, someone greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, someone greater than Solomon is here."

"But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passes through
dry
places, seeking rest, and doesn't find it. Then he says, 'I will return into my house from which I came out,' and when he has come back, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes, and takes with himself seven other spirits more evil than he is, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first. Even so will it be also to this evil generation."

Christ's Mother and Brothers Want to Talk
(Matt 12:46-50 Mark 3:31-35 Luke 8:19-21)

While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, seeking to speak to him. They could not come near him for the crowd.

(Then) one said to him, "Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to you."

But he answered him who spoke to him, "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?"
Looking around at those who sat around him, He stretched out his hand towards his disciples, and said, "Behold, my mother and my brothers! For whoever hears the word of God and does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and my
sister and mother."
